Government

The Tribal Council, representing the tribal community, is the governing body for the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township.  The “Sakom”, or Tribal Governor, is the Chief executive and official spokesperson for the Tribe.  The Lieutenant Governor, or “Leptanet”,  shall perform the duties and exercise the powers that may be delegated to him by the Chief.

Tribal government is responsible for the administration of services and programs for the Passamaquoddy people.   Federal social services, like SSI, operate under the management of the tribal office.  Tribal personnel coordinate general assistance with food, heating and personal necessities for tribal members in need.  Marriage, vehicle registration and other governmental services are accomplished under the auspices of the Tribal Clerks office.

The tribal office is open for business Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.  Please call (207) 796-2301 or visit the office in person.
